In Silico Fermentation can offer several training options focused on metabolic modeling and model-based fermentation engineering ranging from short introductory seminars to in-depth training workshops. We have extensive experience developing and delivery instructional materials on process modeling and biosystems engineering. Furthermore, we can customize the topic, format, location and duration of training events to meet the unique needs of your company or research group.

Introductory Seminars

Our experience indicates that many biotechnology and biomedical companies have limited computational modeling capabilities available in-house. To help bridge this gap, we can provide high-level seminars to introduce basic metabolic and fermentation modeling concepts to diverse technical audiences. Seminars can be delivered remotely or in-person, depending on company location and preference. Following the seminar, focused meetings with individuals or small groups can be scheduled to critically assess the possible utility of in silico modeling within your organization.

Compact Courses

As described below, we have developed in-depth courses to provide extensive training in metabolic modeling and model-based cellular and process engineering. These courses require approximately 24 hours of remote or in-person instruction to complete. We can offer the same courses in more compact form that requires only about 8 hours by covering topics in less depth, using simpler examples and/or eliminating the hands-on component. These compact courses are most useful for either introducing participants to key concepts such that they have the ability to effectively communicate with domain experts and or to focus specifically on a particular method or software tool, such one of our MATLAB apps. We would expect this training to be conducted remotely over multiple days.

In-Depth Courses

While compact courses are useful for establishing basic functional skills, the ability to effectively utilize metabolic modeling and simulation tools requires additional training. We can offer in-depth training courses aimed at developing enhanced expertise through more detailed coverage of important concepts, more sophisticated examples, and extensive hands-on work with software tools. Upon course completion, participants will have accumulated sufficient experience to independently integrate metabolic modeling into their research and development projects. These courses are designed to be delivered remotely or in-person over multiple days following a schedule and format chosen by the participants.

Individualized Training

We have observed that many companies have a single individual or a very small group tasked with computational modeling responsibilities. Similarly, many academic research groups lack an adequately trained student to augment their experimental studies with a strong modeling component. We can provide highly customized individualized training to academic researchers and industrial practitioners which cover topics ranging from the fundamentals of metabolic modeling to advanced simulation of stirred tank bioreactors. This type of training would be conducted remotely over multiple days according to a schedule defined by the participant(s).
