Expertise
I am committed to translating recent advances in microbial metabolic modeling to engineering practice in the biotechnology and biomedical industries. In silico metabolic modeling has emerged as an increasingly powerful tool to computationally interrogate natural microbial systems and simulate engineered fermentation processes. I have observed that biotechnology and biomedical companies usually lack the necessary in-house expertise to benefit from metabolic model-based engineering technologies. My eagerness to expand the industrial use of metabolic modeling motivated the creation of In Silico Fermentation. Now I am excited to offer my services to clients in Massachusetts and elsewhere around the world.
I believe that metabolic modeling can play a key role in advancing understanding of complex microbial systems and achieving optimization of microbial manufacturing processes. My modeling expertise spans a broad range of biotechnology and human health applications. I offer substantial experience with bioreactor process engineering for sustainable production of fuels and chemicals with suspension and gas fermentation platforms. My expertise in microbiota modeling includes engineered consortia, the human gut microbiome and polymicrobial infections associated with chronic wound and cystic fibrosis airway infections.

Underlying all collaborations is the excitement in seeing metabolic modeling tools understood, valued and utilized by industrial practitioners. For proprietary industrial projects, I can provide consulting services focused on data analysis, systems modeling and bioprocess engineering. I can work with industrial and academic partners to submit federal grant applications to support research and development efforts. My capabilities also include the development and delivery of training workshops aimed at elevating in silico modeling and model-based engineering within biotechnology and biomedical companies.
